Developed by early childhood expert Vanessa Levin of Pre-K Pages, ESGI offers a 6-assessment series focused on early developmental skills. Included are:

There are several assessment series in ESGI for Pre-K students. These assessments, created by Dr. Kathy Crane and Vanessa Levin are comprised of many topics including:

Dr. Kathy Crane is a veteran early childhood teacher with advanced degrees in early childhood and reading. Transitional Kindergarten

Veteran teacher, author, and national presenter Palma Lindsay, developed a series comprised of 27 assessments aligned to the curriculum covered in California’s Transitional Kindergarten classrooms. Kindergarten Readiness

ESGI offers two different solutions for pre-screening inbound kindergarten students. Teachers can use a series of simple pre-screeners by Dr. Kathy Crane, including:

  • Writes Name
  • Draws Self
  • Names of Colors
  • Names of Shapes
  • Counts to 20
  • Names Uppercase Letters
  • Counts 0-9
  • Knows Positional Words
  • Demonstrates Pre-Reading Skills

1st/2nd Grade

Struggling Readers

ESGI offers two different reading intervention assessment series. Both assessment series are research-based and are very unique in their respective approaches to reading assessment and intervention.

Dr. Kathy Crane has carefully developed a series of 19 reading assessments over the course of a year based on the latest reading research. With her Reading Intervention Assessment Series, teachers can quickly target instruction based on the needs of each child. Dr. Crane is a veteran early childhood teacher with advanced degrees in early childhood and reading.

Donna Whyte is an educator, national consultant, and presenter, curriculum developer and Friend of ESGI. She shares her comprehensive series of reading intervention assessments which are directly aligned to her research-proven Reading Aptitude Continuum instructional program. ESGI can accommodate all learners through individualized administration. Spanish assessments created by Kishmorr Productions are aligned to their Lee Con Angel Spanish reading series. Students can be assessed in Spanish on many topics including Concepts About Print, Vocabulary, and Letter Identification.

Special Education and RTI

Special Ed teachers use ESGI to differentiate instruction by using skill-level appropriate tests. ESGI’s copy test feature allows teachers to use any test found in the ESGI Test Explorer and modify to meet student needs. Educators can also easily create their own assessments as needed to align with IEPs and targeted interventions.


Social Emotional Learning tests by Donna Whyte allow educators to establish a baseline on the MTSS scale for students’ social-emotional skills. Donna Whyte is a nationally renowned educator, presenter, consultant, curriculum developer, and Friend of ESGI.
